How to do brushes with psp 8-9-X-XI ( Sorry for my bad English writing, I just hope you will understand what I'm trying to teach you, this is my first English tutorial)
There are many ways to do brushes, we will do the first one with an image, (copyright free please ;-) You can take this one HERE I found it on the web with no © on it, if the image is yours and should have a copyright please tell me and I will either replace it or give you credit on the tutorial. The first thing you have to do before making your brushes, is to make a folder for your own brushes. Open your brushes folder and make a new folder, name it My_own_brushes. Look at my capture:
The second thing you have to do is, in your PSP, go to File / Preferences / Files location
When this window opens choose brushes. Now in the Save path : you will change the way to save your brushes, and choose your own folder the one you just made.
When this is done, you will be able to continue, Get ready we start !! Open your image (500 pixels max. if not resize it !), in psp. Convert the layer as a raster layer. Arrange your image like you want or let it as is. In mine I just applied the filter Transparency / Eliminate black, and let the rest as is. Ajust / Grayscale, Effects / Enhance This is mine:
File/Export/as a Custom brush.
You will see this box:
Give a name and your ©, + your description, than click OK That's it. Now, we have to verify this brush, Open a new document, and choose your brush tool. On the top (option bar) you will see a black little arrow, click and choose your folder. Mine is " mes_pinceaux "
Now you will see, in this new box, the brushes you made: click on the one you want and click OK
In your Materials palette, choose the color you want, and the background, (on mine I put black and I have chosen a gradient for the background) add a raster and apply on your image.
Voila! Now if you want to share your brushes. Open your folder My_own_brushes, and take a look, you will see 2 of them: one named Moon.PspBrush, and a second named BrushTip_Moon.PspScript Look a this capture, I circled them in red.
You must share the 2 of them, if not they won't work. Now if you want to do a custom brush from a graphic. Open a document 300 X 300 pixels background black (smaller or higher it's your choice but no more than 500 pixels) Add a layer. Take the brush you want, and apply many times, you can take many kind of brushes, you can change the rotation, the opacity, and the density as you like, look at what I did:
Delete the background layer Image / grayscale Effects / Enhance,
and now you can export this new brush. That's all :-) Result with an orange background and a gradient for my brush.
That it. If you have some problems, or misunderstand my writing just send me a little e-mail, I will try to explain it better. ©Guilda October 2006
